3 limitations of Pacing Reading
Pacing has the speed limit. The limit might differ depending on the person and on the reading style. If you want to progress more, you’ll finally have to switch to Peripheral Reading and read without hand movements. As you practice your peripheral vision gets better and better. Your zigzag hand movement gets more and more narrow until you basically draw straight line down in the middle of the page, so at this stage its better to take hands of. Secondly it is not suitable for reading a computer text file. I can’t imagine someone brushing the monitor with hand. On the other hand you can still use eye movements that you use for reading a book. Thirdly after some time one must take a break in order to provide some rest for the arm. It takes additional physical power. You tire faster.
I consider Pacing reading mainly for beginners. It might also be suitable for reading a text, which requires high concentration, when you seek very good comprehension and want to keep the pace.
