The biggest fear in speed reading

I would say we stop improving in the Higher School. The pace of reading stops due to two reasons: the lack of methodology and the limited physiological abilities of periphery. Just like we advanced putting letters to words, we should be able to connect words to increasingly larger groups.

For a child it is a bit strange, scary and demanding to proceed with the whole word pronunciation after childish syllable reading. If you have small children or remember yourself in the beginning of reading, you should agree that it is a difficult phase.

For the 4-7 year old it requires a lot of time while he is brave enough to put syllables into words. Occasionally, he is able to connect two to three syllables, but tries to guess the rest of the word. The danger is not to understand the long word or to forget the first syllable by the time he reaches the last one. The child has to develop the ability to understand the increasingly larger amount of information. His consciousness must expand. It is frightening to take up more than you are used to. Similar emotions arise while learning speed reading. It’s a huge fear that limits the majority of beginners. They fear to forget, they want to remember everything, they go into small details etc. They don’t want to relax and expand their abilities to process information more rapidly. They are impatient and they have fear of abandoning their old reading habits.

They are afraid to forget the meaning of the text once they finish it. However, we usually forget the text not because of the length; the reason is insufficient concentration and lack of appropriate attitude. You can try it out: if you are not prepared to remember what you read, it would make no difference if you read four or only half of the page.
