Why don`t we have speed reading standarts?
Biology and anatomy provide valuable knowledge about the functioning of the eye, training of peripheral vision and hygiene of reading.
IT people are interested in measuring the reading information in bytes, kilobytes, likewise, to evaluate the information from the text not only in the level of ideas, but in the digital form as well. The ideas can be written in the same amount of words, but one will be worth a few kilobytes while the other – a few gigabytes.
Linguistics reveals the interesting nuances of the texts we read. Furthermore, there is plenty of research, which authorship is hardly predictable; a number of ideas are so popular that no one doubts their truthfulness. Nonetheless, the greatest value is the practice and ability to teach a person to read fast. Everyone is individual and usually new unconventional decisions have to be made. Sometimes after the training students come home with new valuable ideas themselves.
These were just a few of the many speed reading facts. They are the basis for various theories and methodologies of learning. There are many books published about speed reading all over the world. But are there any widely accepted principles that all the authors would agree on and stick to? Not yet, unfortunately.
There are many opinions, but the standards, which determine what speed reading is, and general methodology how to learn it still do not exist, or at least I have never heard about it. Other popular topics such as sales, time management, public speaking, negotiations, etc., are in a similar situation. Could we say that any of these fields have widely accepted standards? There are many authors and methodologies for sales, and everyone has his own model. Equally, one can find something useful in every book about speed reading, but there is not a single book I would sincerely recommend.
The history of science proved, that this is a natural course for all the new fields of science. Sooner or later the turning point will come, when the general standards are accepted. Science does not like unanswered questions and unclear subjects. All the above mentioned topics are subjective enough to be generalized to objective laws of science. While there are no rules, people refer to the most popular and prestigious authors. From the pragmatic point of view, it is important for the methodology to help reach the goals. It is worth spreading and practicing the knowledge, if it lives up to the expectations.
I believe that the ideas and methodologies, I present, are the most effective and worth your attention. Thoroughly selected information from different sources and continuous practice during the seminars facilitated putting everything into places in such a way, that the pace of reading could be doubled, tripled or even improved 10, 20 times. There are no limits for the pace of reading, there only exists the time limit and the resources, of motivation and enthusiasm .
